Hardwood Floors Round Rock, TX

Picture

Hardwood flooring consists of solid wood planks that are cut from a single piece of wood. When choosing hardwood floors there are many factors to consider. Hardwood flooring material comes in different plank sizes, finishes, colors, and grains. Natural hardwood adds a classic and sophisticated look to any room, as no two planks look exactly the same. Natural hardwood requires the planks be nailed or stapled into a subfloor, and natural hardwood should not be installed below grade. Nailing hardwood down properly requires expertise and precision. Hardwood also needs time to acclimate to the temperature, environment, and humidity of the room they are being installed in, so the planks must be left to sit for a few days before being installed. Since hardwood floors are an investment, it is not recommended for homeowners to try and install them themselves.

Engineered wood flooring

Engineered wood flooring adds a beautiful, natural look to any room while remaining cost effective. Unlike natural hardwood, this kind of flooring consists of planks that contain layers of both plywood and hardwood. It is less prone to water damage and temperature induced expansions and contractions than solid, natural hardwood. Engineered wood flooring can be installed in several different ways. The planks can be glued down to concrete slab, nailed down to a subfloor, or installed as a floating floor. The floating floor installation process entails connecting the planks via locking joints, and does not require any glue or nails. A flooring expert can help you determine which installation process is best suited your room or home.

Bamboo flooring

Bamboo flooring is an environmentally friendly option that has become increasingly popular in recent years. Since it’s made from a fast-growing and abundant plant, it is considered to be a more sustainable option than traditional hardwood. Bamboo is an affordable option that is water resistant as well as long-lasting and highly durable. Much like engineered wood flooring, bamboo flooring can be installed using nail-down, glue-down, and floating-floor installation methods. Depending on the method of installation, bamboo flooring can be installed at, above, or below grade.

Porcelain or Ceramic
Tile flooring

Porcelain and ceramic flooring are similar in that they are both made from clay, but it’s important to consider the differences when choosing which material best suits your needs. Porcelain is denser, making it heavier but also more durable. This added durability increases the cost of the material. Both materials are water resistant, making them popular and practical options for bathrooms and kitchens. The installation process for both ceramic and porcelain tiles are complex and require a high level of expertise. A proper subfloor must first be installed, and then the tiles must be laid out properly according to size, shape, and design. To attach the tiles to the subfloor, a bonding agent called thin set must be put down and then combed through. When laying the tiles it is essential to make sure they are level, and that excess mortar is not allowed to dry on the tiles. The level of difficulty in cutting, measuring, and laying tiles make it difficult for homeowners to install themselves, and hiring a professional is highly recommended for these materials.

Natural Stone Tile flooring

Installing natural stone tile is a great way to add both beauty and value to your home. Natural stone is durable and comes in many colors, styles, and varieties. Marble, limestone, and granite are all beautiful options to consider. The installation process is similar to ceramic or porcelain
and requires carefully laying out the tiles, laying down a subfloor, applying thin set, and then grouting the stones. Natural stone is valuable and delicate, and the expertise as well as the tools required usually necessitate a seasoned professional for the best results.

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring can provide the look and feel of hardwood at a more affordable price point. Laminate flooring offers the benefits of being relatively easy to install, as no gluing, nailing, or adhesives are required. Laminate planks are designed to snap together as a floating floor. In order to ensure a smooth and even result, foam sheets or plywood can be used underneath the laminate planks. It is also important to remove any baseboards or trim before installation. Laminate flooring can usually be installed over existing flooring material.

Vinyl or Linoleum flooring

Though the terms vinyl and linoleum are often used interchangeably, there are actually a few key differences between these flooring materials. Vinyl flooring is made up of layers, and only the surface layer contains the design, which is often crafted to look like hardwood or stone. Alternatively, linoleum has the design embedded throughout the entire piece of material. Both products come in sheets and are some of the most affordable flooring options. Vinyl and linoleum can be installed directly over concrete or existing vinyl or linoleum. If the product is being installed on top of hardwood, a plywood underlay is required to ensure a smooth and even finished product. Linoleum and vinyl flooring is installed by using an adhesive to secure the sheet to the ground. Proper and precise cutting and measuring of the sheets is essential in the installation process.
